This breaks up the gameplay and keeps the short bursts of digging fresh (given if it is a "burst" of digging at all if your pickaxe is fast enough or if you've been abusing the fuck out of deathsplosion, otherwise it's like inhaling a whole ass atmosphere after being waterboarded). At regular intervals, there is usually a dungeon there. Let's say you've been digging a while, and you're kind of tired of digging at this point. This isn't necessarily bad, because we can use the different parts of the game to balance out the other. The game wants to do a couple of things the actual levels aren't quite focused on the digging part, although most of the rest of the game like the upgrades system has that in mind as the primary gameplay element. The music is also tied to your fuel supply, so if you run out, although there's enough light in a dungeon for it to not really matter, prepare to solve the rest of the "Puzzle" in silence. It doesn't really matter that much, but I don't know why it's still here from the first game, and I don't know why it runs out in dungeons, especially when the end of not every dungeon has a light refill pick up in it. You have to worry about this and also the limited supply of lantern fuel, because that's a thing. ![]() If you choose to upgrade your pickaxe anyways at this point, you'll find it doesn't actually mine any faster, because it's just too low of a level. You can't use your grenades or anything to dig faster, because there's not enough water around to refill your tank. You don't have a lot of pickaxe upgrades yet, you couldn't get them even if you farmed an absurd amount of money by using black magic or fucking cheat engine because the higher tier ones are level locked. ![]() ![]() Here's a section with a bunch of really tough dirt you have to dig through really slowly. Let's say I perform the skip to Lower Yarrow to do the bit of the main quest that's down there early. For one, the Dig part of SteamWorld Dig 2 kind of conflicts with the metroidvania.
